Title l District-wide Parent Workshop(s):

It is the goal of APS to give parents the information and tools that they need to promote their children's academic achievement and to act as full participating partners, contributing to the success of Atlanta Public Schools. In conjunction with our goal, we have planned parent activities for the week of April 28, 2008. The activities will include:

  • A district-wide parent workshop on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Dean Rusk, 433 Peeples Street, S.W., Atlanta, GA 30310 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The theme for this workshop is "Giving Parents a Voice." We will also recognize parents for excellence in parenting. Lunch will be served.

  • A Discipline Conference on Friday, May 2, 2008, at Atlanta Metropolitan College from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This conference is sponsored by The Atlanta Council of PTA's, Atlanta Public Schools, Communities in Schools and Atlanta Metropolitan College.
Chamber Theatre Productions Field Trip – Donations Requested!
As most of you know, the 6th graders are taking a field trip to see the Chamber Theatre productions at the Atlanta Symphony Hall on Friday, May 2nd. Most students have returned permission slips and paid for the field trip, and we thank you for that. In the past, APS transportation has been free of charge. With rising fuel prices, APS is requiring us to pay for bus service to and from the production. This is a cost not figured into the original $17.00 fee for the trip. We are asking for donations to help offset the cost of the buses. It works out to be $3.50 per student. We realize it has already been a large expense to parents for students to have the opportunity to take this field trip. We feel like it will be a wonderful learning experience for all involved, and can not wait for the opportunity. We appreciate your help and patience as we work through this unexpected expense. If you have questions or would like to make a donation, please contact Tommy Firesheets at tfiresheets@atlanta.k12.ga.us for more information.

Do You Fit the Bill - Or Know Someone Who Does?
In an effort to enhance the upcoming curriculum clusters (the plan for post CRCT instruction), the 6th grade teachers are seeking community persons to come in and talk to the kids about their jobs, simply an overview of what their jobs entail and how they achieved their goals. Specifically, we are searching for:

An actress or actor, someone from the Lion King's cast
A scientist
A political cartoonist or any cartoonist
An athlete or sporting figure
A mathematician
A marine biologist, maybe someone from the aquarium
A travel agent

If you have any connections that may be of help, please contact Kim Di Francesco at kimberley.difrancesco@gmail.com or 404-872-2212. The time commitment is one hour or less (9-10am or 2:30-3:30pm) and the day is flexible.

6th Grade "Day at the Park"
The 6th Grade is planning a "Day at the Park" on Friday, May 16th. We are all set with the City of Atlanta and the Piedmont Park Conservancy. Now, all we need now are parent volunteers to help supervise the day and FOOD! If any parent has contacts with a restaurant and can get food donated (sandwiches, chips, pizza, etc) that would be PERFECT. We need volunteers to provide lunch and drinks for the event. We will also need about 10 parents who can come for the day and help out with games, scavenger hunts, serving lunch, etc. If you can donate lunch items, drinks or your time for the day, please contact Denise Romeo at
inman6thgrade@gmail.com. Thanks in advance for your generosity!
NOTE: If you are not receiving 8th grade updates via email, please be sure to add inman8thgrade@gmail.com to your email address book to ensure that messages are not being delivered to your Spam/Bulk folder.
